Swimming and Beaches

There are many lakes and several rivers where you can go for the day, take a picnic, swim and take advantage of the snack bars, pedalos, canoeing and sailing, which most of these sites provide.

Lac de la Cavayere

A short distance from the old city in Carcassonne, is the lovely lac de la Cavayere. The walk round the lake takes about an hour but is well worth the effort. The lake has a fantastic sandy beach and there are activities galore happening all around, including water-sports, pony rides, beach-volleyball, pedalos and canoeing. If you have any energy left after that lot, there is a forest acrobatic park at this site as well and mini-golf.

Lac de Mondeley

Take the D117 south-west of Pamiers and near La Bastide de Serou, you will find the lake and its sandy beaches. You can picnic or obtain food and drinks from the cafe, cool off in the water (life-guards are on duty),  fish or sit and watch the world go by.

Puivert Chateau

Puivert beach is on the lake in the village of Puivert. It is 16km east of Lavelanet . The village has a splendid chateau which really deserves a visit and you can see the lake from the battlements. The chateau has a long and interesting history, having been laid to siege during the Albigensian crusade, as the residents were all staunch Cathares.
